Youth unemployment rate continues to grow
The Statistical Office of European Commission (Eurostat) has released the latest data on unemployment. Unfortunately the data doesn’t show a positive trend in regard to the youth unemployment problem. Numbers continue to increase, so there are more and more young people without job in Europe.
In October 2009, the youth unemployment rate (under-25) was 20.6% in the euro area and 20.7% in the EU27. To compare with the data of previous month, September 2009, it has increased by 0.5%. In October last year it was 16.2% in both zones. The lowest rate was observed in the Netherlands (7.2%) and the highest rates in Spain (42.9%). Further information: Eurostat news release
