IN THE SPOTLIGHT: AEGEE-Baki European Students Forum
AEGEE-Baki, European Students Forum Baku Public Union is a non-political, secular and non-commercial youth organization from Azerbaijan. The goal of AEGEE Baki is to promote, support and broaden up the international cooperation, democracy, human rights, tolerance, European integration and European standards on education. Considering Azerbaijan as a part of Europe, AEGEE-Baki is encouraging relations, cooperation and integration between young people of Azerbaijan and Europe. AEGEE is one of the biggest interdisciplinary student associations in Europe; it is represented by 15.000 students, active in 241 academic cities, in 40 countries all around Europe, which presents an amazing culture variety. Within the framework of the main fields of action, AEGEE-Baki members organize a wide variety of activities, including several international projects.
“Youth For Gender Equality” project
For example the “Youth For Gender Equality” project in cooperation with the Canadian embassy in Ankara. The main objectives of the project are to raise awareness of young people on gender discrimination by developing their certain skills and knowledge on the discrimination term which can be very productive to tackle the problem of gender equality and to increase youth activism to fight for gender equality in different fields of the social life on the local level. For the purpose of successfull implementation of the project, a 3 day training was held at the beginning of the project and a multiplier group of project participants acted as active implementors of the training ideas. The multiplier groups were divided into 4 groups and worked at short non-professional films called: Color the equality with the pen of difference, Gender discrimination, Women violation and Discrimination victims. At the end of the 6 months project the “Gender week” campaign took place. In the duration of the project the short movies were demonstrated in different universities. AEGEE- Baki Summer University
Each year AEGEE organizes “Summer Universities” in order to promote the intercultural understanding. Between 1 June and 31 September there will be over 70 Summer Universities all over Europe. A Summer University is a 2 weeks course in different fields; it can be a language course, a cultural course or a sports or traveling course. AEGEE-Baki also organizes a Summer University language course from 15 July to 29 July. Besides exploring and learning Azerbaijani language, the participants are going to have fun through making parties, dancing games, enjoying Azerbaijani music and dancing at nights as well spending time on the coasts of the Caspian Sea.
