Each year the Heinz-Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe, in co-operation with the European Youth Parliament, invites young Europeans between 18 and 26 years, who have worked in an honorary capacity towards the understanding between people and/or European integration, to be nominated for the Young European of the Year Award. Red Cross Young Reporter Competition
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has announced a call for applications for young people between the age of 18 and 25 years old to participate in the ICRC Young Reporter Competition. This competition is an opportunity to get an inside look at the ICRC’s humanitarian action.
The 4 best entries will win a one-week mission to ICRC delegations in Georgia, Lebanon, Liberia and the Philippines. You will report on the situation of young people affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. With the guidance and coaching of an ICRC communication specialist, selected candidates will produce a news report on their mission—in print or film—to be published and/or shown in a variety of media outlets. The finished products will be presented during a ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland, around May 8, 2011. Submission deadline: 1 October 2010. Have you done any kind of European Volunteer Service abroad between January 2008 and January 2011 and are you between the age of 15 and 30 years? If so, you are invited to participate in the Scriptamanent contest. The challenge is to write about your EVS experiences. The winning work will receive a sum of 300 euros! Become a reporter for the European Year of Volunteering!
As part of the campaign of the 2011 European Year of Volunteering, the EU will select one reporter in each Member State to volunteer and report from the field on the extraordinary stories of volunteers. Anyone with a volunteering experience, a video and journalistic background has now the opportunity to apply and become a reporter for the EYV.
The 27 selected volunteers will join in a relay that will tour the 27 Member States, starting 6 December 2010 in Brussels. Each volunteer will receive filming equipment and have the trip to another Member State fully organised. The videos the reporter create, will be broadcast throughout Europe during the campaign. Logo Competition: European Institute for Gender Equality
Creative citizens of the EU Member States are invited the join this logo competition. The challenge is to create a logo for the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), the agency that supports EU Institutions and Member States in promoting gender equality, fighting discrimination based on sex and raising awareness about gender issues. The logo should reflect the theme of the Institute’s work and should have a name or title describing what inspired the author to design the logo. Submission deadline: 1 September 2010. Summer Contest: European Road Safety Charter
Join this summer contest by taking pictures or recording videos of good and bad practices on road safety from your street, city or country, and adding an explanatory text. This will give you the chance to win a weekend for two person in Brussels, Copenhagen, Dublin, Madrid or Vienna. All travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the organisers. This contest is organised by the European Commission and the European Road Safety Charter signatories. Participation deadline: 3 October 2010. Green Shots Awards: Share your ideas on Sustainable Consumption
The Green Shots Award is an international contest for the creation and promotion of bottom-up innovative ideas on sustainable consumption. The contest is open to everyone interested in making the world more sustainable. The challenge is to create a creative idea (in a short story forma of 300 to 500 words) that can inspire people to change their everyday behavior towards sustainability. A jury of environmental experts will select the ten best stories. The winning ideas will be turned into animated videos and the author of the overall best idea will be awarded with a trip to the next Earth Summit Rio+20 in 2012. Music against poverty contest 2010: get your message out!
27 nationalities, 1 message: end poverty! Something still needs to be done to fight poverty worldwide. If you are an EU citizen between 15 and 25 years old, join the fight against poverty and get your message out. The challenge is to create a song of maximum 5 minutes, which contains a message on the fight against poverty or development cooperation. This year there are two different prizes: one chosen by a jury of professionals and the other through online voting by Internet users. Participants can vote once every day until 31 October 2010. Winners will get a professional studio recording of their song and will be invited to perform in Brussels during the European Development Days in December 2010. Photo competition: In Search of Solidarity
The Party of European Socialists Group in the Committee of the Regions invites young Europeans between the age of 18 and 30 years old to participate in the photo competition ‘In Search of Solidarity’. The challenge is tot shape the concept of solidarity and present concrete solutions to fight poverty. Photo documentaries (3-6 photos), which illustrate local initiatives helping the most deprived groups, can be submitted before the deadline of 30 September 2010. In addition to high value prizes such as semi-professional photographic kits, the winners will be invited to Brussels to attend a seminar on combating poverty in Europe and their photos will be displayed in an exhibition.
