Young Reporters Against Poverty competition

 Young Reporters Against Poverty (YRAP) is a competition for journalism and communication student between 18 and 30 years old, from all 27 EU Member states. Submit a written article or short radio broadcast in your native language on the subject: EU development assistance. The focus should be “aid” to support the economic, social and political development of developing countries. The 33 finalist students will be able to create their own personal page on www.youngreporters.net where their winning article/broadcast will be displayed. They will also be invited in Brussels to report from the European Development Days on 4-7 December 2010. Three overall winners will finally be selected for the press trip of a lifetime to Africa. Design the cover of the Europa Diary!

European citizens are invited to participate in the Europa Diary Cover competition. The challenge is to design a cover for the Europa diary, which should not contain any text and should be suitable for distribution to young people )aged 16-18′ in all EU countries. The Europa diary covers topics such as environment, consumer affairs, responsible consumption, and the European Union itself. The deadline for submitting entries is 13 November 2010. World Youth Movement for Democracy Essay Competition

The World Youth Movement for Democracy (WYMD) is pleased to announce the launch of its Global Essay Contest. Youngsters between the age of 18 and 30 years old are invited to submit an essay on democracy. The Two Global winners will be announced and provided with a sponsorship to cover travel and othere expenses related to their participation in the Community of Democracies Ministerial Meeting in Vilnius, Lithuania, in July 2011. IYV+10 Volunteer Video Competition

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the UN International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10), the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) invites young volunteers to create short (30-60 second) videos showing their visions for how to make the world a better place through volunteering. The video theme will be: “Volunteering to Change the World”. The challenge is to create a film that advertise the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers. Your video can show your volunteer work, your motivations for volunteering, your hopes and visions for 2011, it can inspire other people to volunteer, or any number of other things. My favourite foreign language story competition

On the occasion of the European Day of Languages 2010, the European Commission will launch a language story competition to highlight how speaking foreign languages can open doors in your private and professional life. The Commission will ask citizens in 31 European countries to tell their favourite foreign language stories. The authors of the best stories will be invited to Brussels for an award ceremony around Europe Day in May 2011.

2nd Edition of the STP multimedia competition launched

The Sustainable Thinking Platform has launched the second edition of its multimedia competition aimed at young people aged 18-30 years old. The challenge is to take a picture, write an essay or to create a video that can inspire others to embrace sustainability as a way of life and answers the question:“With an ever-increasing population, how can we maximise resource efficiency to meet our growing needs?”

Participants will be competing for the chance to win a laptop computer, a photographic camera or a camcorder depending on the entry category. Even if you are not a winner, you may not have to walk away empty handed. By spreading the word of the competition amongst your friends, you will increase the chances of being awarded a 100 Euro Amazon gift certificate. As in the previous edition, participants are asked to rate other members’ work. These votes will be used to select the finalists for the competition, with the winners chosen by a professional panel of journalists and industry representatives. The World Bank Institute is organising the 2010 Young Professionals Competition: Ideas for Action. Are you a young professional between the ages of 18 and 35? Red Cross Young Reporter Competition

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has announced a call for applications for young people between the age of 18 and 25 years old to participate in the ICRC Young Reporter Competition. This competition is an opportunity to get an inside look at the ICRC’s humanitarian action.

The 4 best entries will win a one-week mission to ICRC delegations in Georgia, Lebanon, Liberia and the Philippines. You will report on the situation of young people affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence. With the guidance and coaching of an ICRC communication specialist, selected candidates will produce a news report on their mission—in print or film—to be published and/or shown in a variety of media outlets. The finished products will be presented during a ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland, around May 8, 2011. Submission deadline: 1 October 2010. Logo Competition: European Institute for Gender Equality

Creative citizens of the EU Member States are invited the join this logo competition. The challenge is to create a logo for the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), the agency that supports EU Institutions and Member States in promoting gender equality, fighting discrimination based on sex and raising awareness about gender issues. The logo should reflect the theme of the Institute’s work and should have a name or title describing what inspired the author to design the logo. Submission deadline: 1 September 2010.
