Opening of the exhibition: ‘Imagine a new world’ competition

The opening of the exhibition of the winning photographs from the European Year of Creativity and Innovation 2009 competition took place on 18 January 2010 in the 12 Star Gallery in London. 3 winners were chosen out of 1500 photographers from over 30 European countries.

  • 1st prize winner: Daniel Halasz from Hungary for his portfolio “Imaginary Diary”; a complex portfolio of images that uses to great effect the genre of the postcard. It reminds us that our future world is difficult to separate from our past.
  • 2nd prize: James Naylor from the UK for his portfolio “Class of 2109″. His project is an optimistic view of how a united world could look. “Class of 2109″ takes the form of a high school yearbook and focuses on the positive hybridization of cultures in future generations.
  • 3rd prize: Vincent Bitaud from France for his portfolio “Car(e)less City”. Through his project, Bitaud questions the structure of the City as we know it. If in the future we ban motor vehicles, how could we try to hide those hideous and useless concrete scars and let a little bit of nature back inside?

The winning pictures will continue to travel through Europe and will be exposed: in Budapest (Hungary) from 11 February to 21 March, in Thessaloniki (Greece) from 20 April to end May and in Madrid (Spain) from 9 June to 25 July 2010.  More info and pictures.
