Journalist Award 2010: Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion

The European Commission invites print, online and video journalists from all 27 EU Member States, Iceland and Norway to participate in the European Year Journalist Award 2010. Their articles or news reports must cover the issues of poverty and social exclusion in the European Union and must be published or aired between 1 October, 2009 and 31 August, 2010. The European Year (EY) Journalist Award 2010 has been created in order to support and recognize journalists who contribute to an increased awareness and a broader understanding of poverty and social exclusion through their work. EU launched campaign to raise awareness about biodiversity

The European Commission has recently published a Eurobarometer survey which shows that many Europeans do not understand what is meant by biodiversity and do not feel well informed about biodiversity loss. The Commission has at the same time launched a Biodiversity campaign to raise awareness about the loss of biodiversity in the EU through a website, a video clip, PR actions, street art and media, including social media. The campaign is built around the slogan: ‘Biodiversity – we are all in this together. Environment Commissioner Janez Potocnik said: “Biodiversity is the natural engine for our future, and we must learn to treat it with care. I hope this campaign will help do that, and raise awareness about the need to be kinder to the natural world we depend on.” Find out more on the campaign website or join the Biodiversity Facebook community.

EACEA Culture Infoday 17 May 2010 in Brussels

How to increase your chances of having your project selected? What are the European funding possibilities in the field of culture? What is the latest news on the Culture Programma? Visit the Culture Infoday which will take place on 17 May 2010 in the Charlemagne Building in Brussels to find the answers to all your questions related to the Culture Programme of the European Commission. The European Commission has selected the official logo and slogan for the European Year of Volunteering 2011. The slogan will be: ‘Volunteer! Make a difference.’

European Commission awards Sustainable Energy Prizes

The winners of the Sustainable Energy Europe Awards were announced today at the Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels. The EU Sustainable Energy Week 2010 started today

The EU Sustainable Energy Week is the reference event for sustainable issues in Europe. It forms part of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign which is an initiative of the European Commission. More than 3500 participants are expected to gather at the events that will take place across Europe. Latest figures on youth unemployment in Europe

There are tentative signs that youth unemployment in the EU may be starting to level off according to the latest Monthly Labour Market Monitor from the European Commission. Youth unemployment has been rising more moderately since November, compared to the previous steeper increases observed since mid-2008. Nevertheless, the rises in the youth unemployment rate have weakened recently, they are still higher than the recent more limited increases in the rate for adult, which stabilised in January.
