First European e-Skills Week 2010
From 1 to 5 March 2010 the first European e-Skills Week will take place. This awareness campaign seeks to inform students and young professionals about the vast range of opportunities that ICT-related jobs present. It highlights the growing demand for skilled ICT uses and professionals to drive a competitive and innovative Europe. The European e-Skills Week 2010 is expected to involve 300.000 participants across Europe in more than 100 activities, training events and competitions. Find out more on the E-skills Week website.

The website Europeana.eu is a database with 6 million digital artefacts in an online collection. Europeana is designed to make the diverse culture of Europe accessible to everyone. The collection includes images, texts, sounds and videos from dozens of archives, libraries, museums and galleries from all over Europe. In October 2009 Europeana was awarded the Erasmus Award for Networking Europe.

Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship 2010
The Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship 2010 aims to encourage and promote women to outshine in computing and technology and become active role models and leaders. Applicants should be female students (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics or a closely related study) entering their final year of a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s or PhD programme in 2010/11. Safety and Quality in Online Youth Information project
ERYICA’s project Safety and Quality in Online Youth Information will provide training for 30 trainers and 2 international workshops for 50 younsters. Some objectives of the project are: to develop,implement and promote ‘Principles of Quality in Online Youth Information’, to help young people improve their use of high quality information from the Internet, to promote the use of interactive platforms for youth information workers, to develop quality information from the internet and involving young people in producing quality online youth information. The project will be running for 17 months until April 2011.
Principles for Online Youth Information adopted
In order to ensure the quality of provided Online Youth Information and to guarantee their added value ERYICA, the European Youth Information and Councelling Agency, adopted quality Principles for Online Youth Information. This quality principles have been approved during the 20th General Assembly of ERYICA in Rotterdam, the Netherlands on 5 December and have been established to support young people to find the right information and make their own decisions. Exploring web 2.0 for youth organizations
As a follow up of the Youth Event prior to the Council of Europe Ministerial Conference on New Media, the European Youth Forum organized a 3 day Seminar on ‘Better understanding and practical knowledge of web 2.0 tools for youth organizations’. During the seminar at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg on 3 – 5 December, 15 young people were given the opportunity to meet Council of Europe experts on media, explore the context of a fast changing media environment and develop creative strategy for communication 2.0 for youth organizations. Young People’s Needs in a Digital Age

YouthNet, an exclusively online charity from the UK, produced a report about young people’s needs in a digital age. According to the report the internet does, and will increasingly, play a critical role in the full process of exploration and advice gathering for young people. The reports shows that 75% of the respondents aged 16 to 24 couldn’t live without the internet according to themselves and 45% said that they felt happiest when they are online.
