Share your organisation’s work with Europe

Would you like to share your extraordinary day-to-day work with citizens around Europe? Join the European Year of Volunteering 2011 (EYV) celebrations. Share your achievements, challenges and enriching experiences. Two organisations working with volunteers will be selected in each European country. A member of the EYV team will visit you and produce films, radio chronicles and written articles about your amazing work. This media products will be promoted among television channels, radio stations, and press and Internet groups during the year. All you need to know about the 2011 European Year of Volunteering

The European Year of Volunteering 2011 (EYV) is a celebration of the commitment of millions of people in Europe who work in their communities during their free time without being paid. Their efforts and those of the many thousands of volunteering organisations make a huge difference to our lives in countless ways. The year is also a challenge to those Europeans who do not volunteer, to let them know that they can also make a difference. The launch conference of the EYV 2011 by the European Commission will take place in Budapest (Hungary) on 8 January 2011. Find out more about:

Share your story about volunteering!

You are invited to share your story about volunteering to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and tackling some of the world’s big issues related to environment, hunger, education, maternal health and HIV/AIDs. A 24-hour, online film festival on 4 December 2010 will showcase the best video stories received from volunteers, communities, civil society, non-governmental organisations and United Nations partners and will culminate with the celebrations of the International Volunteer Day (IVD), on 5 December 2010. The best stories will also inspire debate and dialogue next year, marking the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10). IYV+10 Volunteer Video Competition

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the UN International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10), the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE) invites young volunteers to create short (30-60 second) videos showing their visions for how to make the world a better place through volunteering. The video theme will be: “Volunteering to Change the World”. The challenge is to create a film that advertise the tenth anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers. Your video can show your volunteer work, your motivations for volunteering, your hopes and visions for 2011, it can inspire other people to volunteer, or any number of other things. Become a reporter for the European Year of Volunteering!

As part of the campaign of the 2011 European Year of Volunteering, the EU will select one reporter in each Member State to volunteer and report from the field on the extraordinary stories of volunteers. Anyone with a volunteering experience, a video and journalistic background has now the opportunity to apply and become a reporter for the EYV.

The 27 selected volunteers will join in a relay that will tour the 27 Member States, starting 6 December 2010 in Brussels. Each volunteer will receive filming equipment and have the trip to another Member State fully organised. The videos the reporter create, will be broadcast throughout Europe during the campaign. EVS useful information

evsWhat is EVS?
EVS stands for European Voluntary Service and offers young people between the ages of 18 and 30 the fantastic opportunity to volunteer abroad with no costs for a period of two to twelve months. Volunteering through EVS provides young people with an intercultural learning experience, encouraging social integration and increasing employability. Non profit organizations can get involved and benefit by sending or hosting young people.

EVS insurance plan
EVS volunteers are covered by an insurance plan especially designed to protect participants in the EVS during their period of voluntary activity. European Year of Voluntary 2011

european unionThe European Commission has announces on 3 June 2009 that 2011 will be the European Year of Voluntary Activities Promoting Active Citizenship. The European Council have called for a European Year of Volunteering to be organized in order to encourage and support voluntary work. Some objectives of the European year shall be:

  • Raise public awareness of the scope, value and impact of volunteering in Europe and to highlight its contribution to our communities
  • Celebrate volunteers and volunteer organisations for their contribution and to showcase good practices and projects involving volunteers;
  • Raise awareness among European citizens of the possibilities to volunteer and to motivate people to become involved;
  • Highlight and recognise the value of local volunteer action in building a European identity and work towards a comprehensive EU policy agenda to support, promote and recognize volunteering and its different roles;
